Why do people trust psychiatric drugs?

i'm deathly afraid of most things, never more so then when I was on these drugs. I started getting very paranoid about mind control, side effects, bugs crawling on me, and to top it off, I was spending most of my crappy pay check on them which also made me think these drugs were eventually going to make me homeless. I'm confused and frustrated as ever now, buts its better than the alternative.
