How optical zoom determines quality of camera...is optical zoom 5x goood enough for photography.?

A large optical zoom implies a sensitive image chip and good image stabilization because these suffer when you zoom/magnify the image, but it's not guaranteed. Digital zoom is nothing more than cropping and blowing up the result, ie reduced resolution. All I can say is read the reviews before buying.
