Does this sound like a goood plain to get this guy to talk to me? ?

Okay so theres this guy dylan at the skating rink I hang out at, and I really like him, but we dont talk a lot. So I was thinking about trying to start a conversation and skate up to him but make it look like im not trying to follow him, and be like, "your a really good skater". And if he answers me then he'll probably be like "thanks!" then ill ask him if he took lessons and work my way up to saying "well maybe you can teach me some tricks sometime". And see how it goes from there(: do you think this will work?
