Careers in helping people with their problems?

Okay so I have a strange gift at helping people to open up about and talk about their problems. Its happened a lot. Like yesterday I got my girlfriends best friend (who I barely know) of five years to tell me about all of the stress her home life is bringing her. My girlfriend was shocked because she hadn't heard any of the things her friend was telling me. Ive done things like that before and I like helping people to open up, but psychology doesn't really pay well. I wanted to know any career suggestions that you might have where I can help people with their problems and make decent pay? And not any that require medical school like psychiatry because my grades are good but not that good haha. Thanks!
